Are Store Opening specials real?

Friday, May 11th, 2007

I saw an advert for a new computer store opening today, and wanted to get a few of their specials. A laptop for RM1,499, a HP all in one printer for RM199 and a notebook cooling fan for RM1.

So as always, I woke up at 10am and strolled in at 11am. What a huge crowd!. I enquired and was told that there was already a huge crowd there at 9am, so they gave out entitlement vouchers to the lucky early birds.

Anyway since I was already there, I met up a friend from Brunei for a chat and also a store owner who was so stressed as the laptop I wanted to buy had just dropped price today from RM1,999 to RM1,699 - leaving him with old stock he had earlier bought at RM1,900.

What a lousy IT business to be in!. Earn less than 5% profit, and worst still when the price drops, your selling price is now lower than your cost.

So now my youngest girl age 12, has my first Acer laptop which I bought at RM5,000, my eldest girl age 21, has my second Twinhead laptop at RM3,999 and my middle girl age 16, has the brand new Acer at RM1,699. My maid is now asking for a laptop to key in her duties and recipes!.

3 lessons to be learnt here - 1. never do a business dealing with techonology that keeps improving all the time. 2. don’t be hasty, wait a little bit longer as prices will drop and 3. always shop online in Ebay or at Low Yat to get the best deal. ( yes I do sell about 50 products online in Ebay, so I may be biased, but at least my prices are competitive in order to stay in business the last 8 years)

Open an SMS and be billed RM3

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I just got my Maxis bill and was surprised to see a RM3 charge billed under External Content Provider.

I checked with Maxis and they said this - do not open any SMS sent from any 5 digit number starting with 3 - or else we will bill you RM3. Maxis says they will refund my RM3 and also block all such sms from being sent to me in future.

So have you checked your phone bill?. All the RM3 billed to you, save it and buy me a coffee..hehehehe.

Power of Numbers - 90% accurate?

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Wednesday 7.30pm I will be attending a preview at the PJ Hilton on the Power of Numbers.

Numerology - some say its in your date of birth and 90% accurate. So can you change your life if you know your numbers?.

I have friends who studied Feng Shui & Kua numbers and arrange the direction of where they face, while eating, sleeping, working  & gambling. They have given me some free advice on Kua numbers, but so far it hasn’t worked for me.

If numerology works for me, I’ll update you for sure. So in the meantime, I’ll be going with an open mind to learn the mystics of the universe, and maybe some new tricks to unlock the codes, to abundant blessings and happiness.

What did your dad tell you, on your 21st birthday?

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

What did your dad tell you on your 21st birthday?

Today May 7th, my eldest daughter turns 21. What an exciting time, but sad too, as she is in Sydney for her final year of studies and away from home.

There are so many things I want to tell her on her birthday, but a birthday card, and a phone call is not enough.

So since I have another 2 more girls aged 16 and 12, I decided to write a book on the all the things I want to tell them. From my Eurasian customs, to my philosophy, I hope that they will refer to this book often, whenever they come to a crossroad, and to achieve greatness in life.

Wouldn’t it be nice, if your parents told us all the short cuts to life, and actually didnt miss out on the details?.

So what advice did your dad or mom give you when you turned 12, 16, 21, when you were dating, when you decide to get married, or when you had your first baby ?

Let me have your thoughts, and I’ll include your contributions and send you my free book, when I publish it.

Happy 21st Birthday Audrey, with love Dad.
