I saw an advert for a new computer store opening today, and wanted to get a few of their specials. A laptop for RM1,499, a HP all in one printer for RM199 and a notebook cooling fan for RM1.
So as always, I woke up at 10am and strolled in at 11am. What a huge crowd!. I enquired and was told that there was already a huge crowd there at 9am, so they gave out entitlement vouchers to the lucky early birds.
Anyway since I was already there, I met up a friend from Brunei for a chat and also a store owner who was so stressed as the laptop I wanted to buy had just dropped price today from RM1,999 to RM1,699 - leaving him with old stock he had earlier bought at RM1,900.
What a lousy IT business to be in!. Earn less than 5% profit, and worst still when the price drops, your selling price is now lower than your cost.
So now my youngest girl age 12, has my first Acer laptop which I bought at RM5,000, my eldest girl age 21, has my second Twinhead laptop at RM3,999 and my middle girl age 16, has the brand new Acer at RM1,699. My maid is now asking for a laptop to key in her duties and recipes!.
3 lessons to be learnt here - 1. never do a business dealing with techonology that keeps improving all the time. 2. don’t be hasty, wait a little bit longer as prices will drop and 3. always shop online in Ebay or at Low Yat to get the best deal. ( yes I do sell about 50 products online in Ebay, so I may be biased, but at least my prices are competitive in order to stay in business the last 8 years)
