Rules are for fools, but act as a guideline for the wise
With increased competition either in business or in employment, flexibility is the key to keeping good customers and good employees. Yet, most companies never empower their staff to make simple decisions.
10 years ago, I worked for a really good GM Ricardo Tapia. His principle was this - as long as you do not do anything illegal or immoral, you may bend the rules, to achieve and exceed business targets.
I will always remember some of his quotes - Rules are for the Fools, but act as a guideline for the wisemen. Make the mistakes, and learn from them, so you don’t repeat them. And because of his guidance and wisdom, my team achieved greatness and global recognition.
Well today I went to Citibank to open up a savings account. Would you believe, it takes 1-2 days for a simple savings account to be approved. It seems that the Manager in charge is away at a meeting, his assistans has no power and the Manager’s boss is away for 2 weeks.
Walk into any bank and they will gladly accept your money for safekeeping - except Citibank. Even holding a Citibank credit card, won’t get you instant approval of a savings account.
I guess our ringgit is too small for this US bank.
